Mama Elephant Lunar New Year Card - Year of the Pig 2019

I made today’s card for MAMA ELEPHANT’S 1st Instagram Hop but decided to write up a quick blog post just to show you all how I made this card. Make sure you head over to Instagram and hop along for a chance to win a great prize!

I was excited to do this hop and take out some of the products I haven’t had a chance to play with yet. I really wanted to make a card for the upcoming Lunar New Year. This year is the year of the Pig and when I got this Piggie Creative Cut a few months ago, I knew I was going to use it this way!

The first thing I did was die cut all the pieces for the little piggie onto light pink cardstock. Then, I inked up the sides with Distress Oxide in Worn Lipstick for dimension and interest. I inked it up more at the checks to have blush on my piggie. I then die cut the eyes out of black cardstock and glued all the pieces together.

Next, I decided to work on my sentiment. I took a few stamps from Lunar Extras to create a large sentiment. I heat embossed this with white embossing powder onto red cardstock. This will be like a red envelope, in Vietnamese it’s called a ‘li xi’, the pig is holding to pass on good fortune. I decided to also stamp out the large chinese character for “Luck” onto red card stock to use later as part of my design.

I die cut a panel out of kraft card stock for a base. I used both Woodgrain Cover Creative Cut and the scallop die from Framed Tags – Waverly Creative Cut to create a beautiful and interesting backdrop for my sweet little piggie.

I assembled my card by gluing all the pieces together and onto the woodgrain panel. I felt it looked a little bare and decided to color the lantern from Lion Dance and add it to my card. This was the finishing touch I needed!

So I found this Starbucks giftcard with a pig on it and was obsessed with the idea of sending it to my sister who lives in Colorado. So I decided to create a pocket for the inside of my card using the Inside Pop Creative Cuts. This was very simple to do for such a fun surprise inside your card! You just cut out the die twice and glue the tabs together. Then you adhere it to the card and it’s ready. I also decided to dress it up with the little pig from Lunar Animals.

That’s it for my card today! Don’t forget to visit the hop on Instagram!
