I am so excited to share all the cards I made with the November release! This release focuses on Chinese New Year – being of Vietnamese descent, I did celebrate this holiday growing up but it wasn’t until I married my Chinese husband until things got hard core. Lol. I learned a lot more about this day and all the fun traditions (especially the FOOOOOOD) since I’ve been celebrating it with the Lam household. I actually first discovered Mama Elephant by buying all their older Lunar New Year sets and made tags to go on my red packaged gifts that I would hand out to the elders! I’m so excited that Mama Elephant is expanding sets for this holiday that isn’t that big in the United States but one of the biggest (if not the biggest) in China.

Okay, enough about me! Let’s start the card making. Today I am sharing a card I made with Zodiac Ox. I actually did not make a Chinese New Year card to show the versatility of these sets! Today my oxen are cows just hanging out in a grassy farm.

I first stamped and colored my cows with Copic markers. Next, I die cut them with coordinating dies. Note that the coordinate dies come with a set of small dies that will cut out grooves in the hooves so you can tuck things into there little hooves (like the cow holding the plant). This gives you versatility to either cut them out or not, which I love!

For my background, I whipped out my trusty Distress Oxides. For the sky, I ink blended with Cracked Pistachio and Peacock Feathers. For the grass, I first die cut my grass with Mama Elephant Grassy Trio – Creative Cuts then ink blended with Shabby Shutters and a little Mowed Lawn for dimension. I then die cut the Picket Fence – Creative Cuts in white and glued all the pieces together for a fun farm background.

At this point, I was ready to adhere my cows. I glued all the pieces directly onto the card this time. A lot was already going on and I didn’t want it to be too dimensional and not fit into an A2 envelope. Last, I stamped my sentiment on white card stock with Mama Elephant Ocean – Pigment Ink and cut the strip down and glued it to my card as well.

That’s it, my card is complete! Thank you so much for stopping by! Don’t forget to leave a comment for a chance at the giveaway:

  1. Glad that the Ox are able to enjoy a
day of fun. Great scene. Thanks
for the insight to your life – so different
    from mine. txmlhl(at)yahoo(dot)com

  2. I didn’t realize that there were dies for cutting out the ox’s hooves — that’s awesome! It makes building a scene so much easier, since you don’t have to mask.

  3. What a cute card. I love that you can cut slits in the hooves so they can hold the adorable little icons. Have fun celebrating!
