Teacher Appreciation Cards are Coming!

Next week is teacher appreciation week! Between 3 kids, 3 teachers, 3 aids, 2 administrators, I’m one busy momma! Luckily I have a little bit of stagger between the baby and the twins. The baby’s Montessori is honoring Teacher Appreciation this week, so his card came first.

His school actually had a project where they had to choose their favorite shape and we had to make a card for the teacher. I asked Cam what his favorite card is and he said, “SQUARE!”  Easy peasy, baby boy! (It’s too bad, I was looking forward to the challenge of a triangle card. Ha!)

I told myself, “Keep it simple. Don’t overdo it.” Well that plan failed once I whipped out the Distress Inks. And the die cutter. And the embossing gun…

How The Slippery Slope Begun

First, I stamped the teacher sentiment from Mama Elephant Words Defined with Versamark ink and covered it with white embossing powder. A quick zap with the embossing gun and it was perfectly melty and ready for some emboss resist action with the Distress Ink. I was inspired by a friend’s card and decided to go with Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink for the floor. I didn’t plan accordingly and this is on 110 lb white card stock instead of the Bristol Smooth I usually use. You can tell the blend isn’t as clean. It took a little more elbow grease to get to something I was happy with but it would have been so much easier if I remembered the Bristol Smooth! I then blended a little Scattered Straw on top where my little mouse friend will stand just to help him stand out since he will be the focus of the card.

I stamped the mouse, pencil, apple and stack of books from Mama Elephant’s Page Hugger stamp set and colored them with Copic markers. My favorite feature of this stamp set is how you can tuck the small items into the hands of the critters…so of course, I had to get the coordinating dies which makes this super easy. The dies will cut a slit under the critters hands so you can tuck, in my card, the pencil in his hands. I absolutely adore this! It’s so cute!

I finished the card by adhering the apple and the stacks of books on the floor, then I put some foam tape behind the mouse holding the pencil in the middle of the card since he is my star. I adhere the entire thing on a 4×4 top folding black card base.  And there we have it! A “simple” and sweet card for a very sweet teacher we appreciate very much!
