One of my crafty friend and I decided to do a personal challenge just to keep the creative juices flowing. We’ve been so inspired by the many trifold cards recently made by some super fabulous designers so we decided to try one ourselves.
I started with a piece of 12 x 9 Bristol smooth paper because I knew I will be inking up a colorful background. I decided to ink it up before I folded it. I used Distress Inks in Tumbled Glass, Cracked Pistachio, and Dried Marigold for a soft sunset sky.
I took the other 4 inches I cut off from the same Bristol Smooth paper and used my Lawn Fawn stitched cloud border die and cut some clouds for the bottom of my card. The die isn’t long enough, so I had to line it up at the last cut to have one big piece of cloud. I lightly blended Distress Ink in Spun Sugar at the bottom of the cloud piece.
Now it’s time to fold! From the shorter end of the paper I cut it down to 5 inches. I scored the long end (12 inches) and 4 and 8 inches to create a 4 x 5 card when it’s folded. I did the same score lines and folds for the cloud. I then adhered the cloud piece to the card base. I know some people would adhere then score/fold but I wanted to do it separately just to have a little more control in how clean the creases and folds turn out. (As a side note, I also inked up the background before folding because I knew I wanted a very soft colored background, so I didn’t want color pooling in the creases if I was to fold before inking.”)
I stamped out all the images except the sentiments from My Favorite Things BB Magic Dragons stamp set (how cute are these dragons!) and stamped them onto cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I colored everything with Copic markers and since budget did not permit for coordinating dies, I fussy cut everything by hand.
Now the fun part. I adhered by images with a tape runner. I couldn’t use foam tape this time since this was a trifold card and I had images in the inside, I wanted to make sure it folded as flat as possible.
I stamped the two sentiments with Versamark ink and dusted it with white embossing powder and melted it with my heat tool.
This is where I usually go crazy with sequins. But because I really wanted to keep the card flat, I decided a good compromise would be the star confettis. I got the bit of shine and it kept the card relatively flat. Plus the stars went well with the soft sky theme I was aiming for.
